There are very few storytellers who can stop you dead in your tracks, make you put the book down and gaze into the space in front of you with wide-eyed wonder and let loose your best Keanu-Reeves-WHOA. JD Salinger was one of those storytellers.
The news of his death isn't that old, but I'm sure others will write far more touching tributes than I ever could. Instead, I think I'll just go read some Bananafish.

Seriously. You were there when I read Bananafish for the first time. I really did just put the book down, my jaw hanging open, and look at you like I'd just been slapped in the face. It was amazing.
I like "Bananafish," but I'm really more of an "Esme" girl.
